Fairbanks Center Greenspace (lawn or any outdoor space around the centre) bookings are for large community events | fundraisers with more than 20 people and film crews.
Family gatherings and small events (less than 20 people) do not require a booking. However, please check calendar below when planning your personal events.
Step One - Confirm date is available
Check the calendar below for availability. If the date is not listed as busy, it is available to submit a booking request. Please note that we only book ONE event per day on the greenspace.
Step Two - Download and complete form
Please download and complete the greenspace site rental agreement to request use of the Greenspace Lawn (or any outdoor space) behind | around the Fairbanks Centre in Shubie Park at 54 Locks Rd., Dartmouth ONLY (see map below). and email to info @shubenacadiecanal.ca.
Payment of fees, insurance details and damage deposit are required to confirm a booking on the Fairbanks Centre Greenspace (lawn | outdoor space around the FC).
For all other bookings in Shubie Park (including the use of the ball field and Shubie Beach on Lake Charles), you must contact Tracy, Halifax Regional Municipality, at (902) 456-0965 | murphyt@halifax.ca or visit website HERE.
The Shubie Campground (30 John Brenton Drive) is privately owned and is not managed by SCC.
Step three - Review conditions of use and submit requirements
These conditions of use apply to Shubenacadie Canal Commission (SCC) managed property, including at Shubie Park around the Fairbanks Centre at 54 Locks Rd. and parking lot.
All events that book SCC Greenspace must have insurance. Please ensure that you have the Shubenacadie Canal Commission listed as additionally insured up to $2 million. Please forward at least one week prior to your event date.
All events that use SCC managed greenspace must complete the contract for use and provide a $500 damage/security deposit prior to event date to confirm booking.
Contract (application form link above) must be received to confirm booking.
ALL SCC Greenspace is non-smoking and on-leash pet areas.
Parking lots or roadways are not to be blocked. Be mindful of no parking signs/fire hydrants.
All SCC outdoor sites are public park spaces. No booking has exclusive use of any SCC outdoor space or equipment and all arrangements must be made to not block trails or prevent park users from enjoying the park.
If your event includes vendors, vendor details must be included in contract details.
Any markings or signs used on SCC property, must be completely removed after the event.
If there are public safety issues, operational concerns, or if the users fail to comply with the rental terms, the SCC reserves the right to cancel the contract at any time.
Shubie Park: The vendor areas used for canoe/kayak rentals (Wildwood Water Sports) & the Lockside Canteen and patio (Lemon Dogs) are reserved for these businesses. Please see map above for options for portable washrooms (orange stars). The public washrooms in the parking lot are opened daily by Halifax Regional Municipality staff.
Step four- Pay FAIRBANKS CENTRE GREENSPACE USE FEES
Please note: All fees for use of the Greenspace at 54 Locks Rd. are due at time of booking. The Greenspace (outdoor space) will not be booked until fees are paid.
We accept e-transfer, credit card and cheque (made out to Shubenacadie Canal Commission).
Please note all fees are non-refundable but can be used for another date as long as it’s available. Contact the office to re-schedule.
